Service Description

This five-week Scene Class is led by Mike Booth and is designed for experienced actors who want rigorous, practical training on world-class dramatic writing. Drawing on over twenty-five years of professional experience as an actor, director and acting teacher, Mike works with each actor to uncover the dramatic engine of the scene—what the character needs, what they're fighting for, and how truthful behaviour emerges from action rather than performance. Actors are cast in challenging contemporary scenes and rehearse them across four consecutive weekly sessions. The focus is on bringing the story into the moment through precise script analysis, active listening, and clear, playable objectives. The course culminates in Anatomy of a Scene, a live workshop presentation in which each scene is performed before an audience and then immediately reworked with direction and feedback. This unique format allows actors to experience the pressure of performance while developing the ability to adjust, deepen and clarify their work in real time. Course Structure Weeks 1–3: Scene rehearsal and craft work Week 4: Final rehearsal session Week 5: Anatomy of a Scene – public workshop performance at Tap Gallery, Surry Hills The class is intentionally small to allow for detailed work and individual attention. Maximum 6 actors (3 scenes). "I'm always filled up with so much gratitude from these classes, there's not really any way for me to further describe it. I've learned to trust myself, and believe in myself from being in these workshops. I learn about what I have and what I can do as an actor each time I take a chance on this course." — Mike DiGirolamo Please note: This class is intended for actors with previous training or demonstrated experience. If you're unsure whether it's the right fit, please contact Mike at mike@sydneyactorsplayhouse.com.
